Radeon Super Resolution To Offer Tremendous Performance Boost – Up to 70%

Radeon Super Resolution is AMD’s latest attempt to Rival NVIDIA’s Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS). While developers must enable DLSS and AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution, Radeon Super Resolution will work with practically all games since its embedded in the drivers itself.

Mainak

AMD announced Radeon Super Resolution recently, which gives a HUGE performance boost to RDNA 1 and RDNA 2 GPUs. AMD are claiming that AMD RSR gives a HUGE 70% increase in gaming performance, compared to RSR off. But just what is AMD Radeon Super Resolution? And how does it differ from AMD FSR / FidelityFX Super Resolution? Both AMD and Nvidia are being very aggressive with their up-sampling announcements, as with RDNA 3 and RTX 40 fast approaching, effective up-sampling is going to be crucial to get high performance on high resolutions with ray tracing. But with such a HUGE performance boost unlocked for RDNA 1 and RDNA 2 graphics cards, can Nvidia DLSS and DLDSR keep up?

Radeon Super Resolution Performance Claims

AMD Claims That RSR should improve in-game performance by 70% in ‘thousands of games’, a statement it makes in the video embedded below. Apparently, AMD’s quoted performance improvement applies to gaming in 4K versus gaming in 4K with RSR on. To do so, RSR upscales from 1440p to 4K, albeit only with AMD graphics cards.

Still, AMD has embedded RSR at a driver level, unlike FSR. Hence, RSR should be available to all eligible Radeon RX cards at a driver level. Reputedly, people will be able to enable RSR within the Radeon Software suite, as shown above. Unfortunately, AMD has not provided a full list of the GPUs that support RSR. A footnote on AMD’s website reads:

As of January 2022, Radeon Super Resolution is compatible with Radeon RX 5000 series graphics and newer and works with games that support exclusive full-screen mode. AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 22.1.3 or newer is required.

Conclusion

Once again, the technology is supported by all modern AMD Radeon RX graphics cards so couple that with the insane selection of gaming titles that you have at your disposal that can leverage from the performance benefits of RSR, gamers are definitely in for a treat. There is no specific date told when the Software: Adrenalin Edition with RSR will be available but it should be relatively soon since FSR already has the required framework set in the gaming segment and it’s only a matter of time before we see RSR added to the latest Radeon drivers,

But Then again People With RX Vega Series, Polaris, Radeon 7 Series of GPU’S, There is no confirmation if this new Thing will be a part of them. Only time will tell.
