Nvidia RTX 4090D: Official Announcement in China with Additional Insights from Three AIB Partners

The RTX 4090 and RTX 4090D are two distinct graphics cards from Nvidia’s RTX series. Each of these GPUs has its own unique specifications and performance characteristics. While I own a RTX 4090 and have written an article about how Value for Money it is for content creators, even though the 4090D is a cut down variant, it should perform the same.

RTX 4090D Specifications

The RTX 4090 and RTX 4090D, both based on the Ada Lovelace architecture, feature different GPU variants. The RTX 4090 features the AD102-300 GPU variant, while the RTX 4090D features the AD102-250 GPU variant. Both cards support DirectX 12 Ultimate.

The RTX 4090D model features a core count of 14592, a significant decrease from the rumored specs “16384”. Furthermore, the Tensor core count has been revised to 456 cores, a drop from the initially reported 512. This marks a substantial shift in the GPU’s configuration.

Regarding memory specifications, the card will continue to feature 24GB of GDDR6X memory. It operates at a clock speed of 21 Gbps and uses a 384-bit interface. Interestingly, these memory specifications remain unchanged. However, a significant modification is seen in the default Thermal Design Power (TDP), now set at 425W. This represents a decrease of 25W from the original model.

RTX 4090D AIB Partner Models From MSI, Zotac, Galax

MSI is set to launch its top-tier SUPRIM X variant of the GeForce RTX 4090 D graphics card, boasting superior performance, an extensive cooling system, and an eye-catching design. Additionally, MSI is preparing a Gaming X SLIM variant, a more compact design for those seeking a less costly alternative to the SUPRIM X variant.

ZOTAC is introducing five distinct variants of the RTX 4090 D, including the PGF, Trinity, and AIRO series. The PGF RTX 4090 D is the premium variant, featuring a remarkable quad-slot design adorned with RGB LEDs and a triple-fan cooling mechanism.

GALAX plans to offer its GeForce RTX 4090 D graphics card in three unique variants: the 20th Anniversary Edition, Boomstart, and Metamaster. Notably, the company has also prepared an AIO liquid-cooled design, complete with a 360mm radiator and a sleek casing for the card.

NVIDIA has released performance data for the RTX 4090D, comparing it to the RTX 3090 Ti. The RTX 4090D demonstrates a performance increase of up to 3.5 times when using DLSS+RT in games like Alan Wake 2.

When it comes to power consumption, the GeForce RTX 4090D uses slightly less energy than the RT 4090, based on an average of 22 games tested by NVIDIA. The Ada Lovelace architecture’s efficiency surpasses that of the older Ampere and even outperforms the competitor’s RDNA 3 GPUs in all performance-per-watt and power consumption metrics.
