Pacific Drive: A Beginners Guide and My Review

Pacific Drive: A Beginners Guide and My Review

In a world where modern games often feel lifeless and boring, and single-player games can seem like sitting next to an “idiot box,” grinding away meaninglessly, there comes a breath of fresh air – Pacific Drive. This game is a refreshing change from the monotonous MMORPGs that I stopped enjoying a long time ago. Pacific Drive is more than just a game; it’s like reading a captivating novel or watching an engaging anime.

With Pacific Drive, I found myself immersed in a unique experience that had me hooked for over a week, clocking in over 50 hours of gameplay. The chores were forgotten, and the world outside ceased to exist. The story absolutely captivated me. It was just me, my car, and the voices in my head, creating a surreal yet intriguing narrative.

Despite not being marketed as AAA games, Pacific Drive breaks all skulls and bones, standing tall amidst the commonplace games of today. It’s a testament to the fact that a game doesn’t need a massive marketing budget to be enjoyable; it just needs a compelling storyline, engaging gameplay, and the ability to captivate its players. And Pacific Drive has it all.

Welcome to the world of Pacific Drive, a game that redefines the gaming experience. Happy gaming! And for all those newbies, i have a guide for you, along with a linked-in video of another fellow youtuber, who inspired me to write this article XD.

Pacific Drive Storyline

As I have stated before, Pacific Drive is a survival game that takes you on a journey through the Pacific Northwest. The emotional depth of Pacific Drive’s storyline is one of its most compelling features. The narrative revolves around the intertwined lives of Tobias, Alen, Francis, the Driver, and Oppy, each character adding a unique flavor to the plot.

Tobias and Francis send you on a mission called “The Visions,” where you investigate three murals that lie beyond the Mid-Zone Wall. As you traverse through the game, you listen to Tobias and Francis bicker over the radio, adding a layer of humor and personality to the game.

Anomalies on Pacific Drive

Oppy, voiced by Tara Langella, is a former lead scientist of the Zone whose garage you stumble into. The interactions between Oppy and the Driver provide some of the game’s most memorable moments.

The game is not just about survival; it’s about unraveling the mysteries of the Zone and understanding the backstories of Francis, Tobias, and Oppy. This emotional journey, coupled with the game’s challenging gameplay and stunning graphics, makes Pacific Drive a truly immersive experience.

Your experience with Pacific Drive resonates with many players on the internet. The game has received positive reviews for its challenging gameplay, stunning graphics, and captivating music. However, some players have noted the high system requirements and the initial difficulty level as potential drawbacks. Despite this, the overall consensus is that the game offers a rewarding and immersive gaming experience that is worth the price

Pacific Drive Tips for New Players

git gud at pacific drive
xD, don’t take it personally
  1. Loot: Take your time and loot as much as you can. Big cars, dumpsters, fridges, and large white buildings from ARDA have good loot. Look out for chemicals and plasma, which are crucial for crafting repair putty and progressing in the game. Also, watch for thermosap crystals, which are essential for crafting a shield.
  2. Upgrades: You don’t need every upgrade to finish the game. I recommend going for lead-plated doors, bumpers, and panels to shield them from radiation. The locker upgrade is great for extra space, and don’t forget to upgrade your suit for radiation protection.
  3. Car: Lead-plated doors, panels, and bumpers are excellent choices for your car. Off-road wheels are best for rough terrain. Upgrade the car’s inventory and add side racks for more petrol and space. Inside the car, backseat racks can hold an autoparker and a jumper. A loot antenna on top of the car can show you where the loot is. I initially thought about upgrading the engine, but the problem is, that speed is sort of a disadvantage here, you can go with the engine upgrades if you want to, they certainly give you more HP, but I believe other components are much more essential.
  4. Anomalies: Most of them you can dodge. The blue barriers will give you a boost into the air. The electric ones will damage the car and might short-circuit some parts of the car. Geysers will push your car into the air. The ones that fly will most of the time grab your car, and they will move your car or they will keep your car in the same place, the mannequins will explode, and the yellow orbs will give you a boost to your car.
  5. Energy Orbs: Stable, unstable, and corrupt are three types. From my experience, stable energy orbs are the most useful as many important upgrades require them. If you’re having trouble finding orbs on the map, there’s an item you can craft that shows you their locations.

My Review for Pacific Drive

The graphics on Pacific Drive are stunningly beautiful, enhancing the immersive experience of the game. The visual art style, despite being demanding on the system, contributes significantly to the game’s overall appeal. The music is equally captivating, adding depth to the overall ambiance. It complements the game’s theme and setting perfectly, enhancing the player’s immersion in the game world.

Optimization Details For players using a 3060 GPU and i5 processor, there are several optimization details available on Reddit. These include adjusting the game’s settings, such as reducing the shadow quality to Medium and using FSR 3 Upscaling to improve performance. These adjustments can help achieve a smoother gameplay experience on systems with these specifications.

Running the game with Steam Deck.

Replayability While Pacific Drive is quite amusing and enjoyable, it’s not one you’d likely replay unless you’re aiming for achievements. But considering the overall gaming experience, it’s definitely worth buying. The game’s challenging gameplay, stunning graphics, captivating music, and engaging storyline make it a worthwhile experience.
