AMD, in a move as smooth as their fine wine graphics, recently unveiled their upscaling tech (FSR 3) into the wild. This state-of-the-art, open-source upscaling is now up for grabs for all Unreal Engine 5 developers and can be used in conjuncture with DX12.
It will work on your 1050ti, insert fake frames**, and you don’t have to pay for it xD.
In a world where technology is advancing at breakneck speed, not sure I can say the same for game developers, but DLSS 3.0 has decided to join the party with its frame generation feature, so the developers can let AI do their job. It’s like they’ve discovered fire, or maybe just a gleaming rock. Either way, brace yourselves because gaming is about to get a whole lot… similar, oh you don’t have to pay for it btw, as it works on your 1050ti xD.
The two significant updates in AMD FSR 3 are frame generation and the new “Native AA” quality mode1. The frame generation feature uses an enhanced version of AMD Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF) optical flow technology and temporal game data to generate additional high-quality frames for a higher framerate in supported games.
The new “Native AA” (Native Anti-Aliasing) quality mode applies high-quality anti-aliasing and sharpening without any upscaling for improved image quality over native resolution. There is a modest performance cost when using this new mode, but when combined with frame generation, the “Native AA” mode can provide enhanced image quality and a boost in framerate.
At the moment, AMD FSR 3 can be found in three AAA games: Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Immortals of Aveum, and Forspoken. While NVIDIA, AMD’s rival, celebrates the release of more than 500 RTX games and apps since its launch, AMD intends to expand the list of FSR games that it supports.
The following titles have been emphasized by the company to support FSR 3 shortly:
AMD is working with Epic Games to release an AMD FSR 3 plug-in for Unreal® Engine 5. This collaboration aims to simplify the integration of FSR 3 into UE5 games. The Unreal Engine 5 plugin offers an alternative option for non-Windows platforms.
Performance on AMD Radeon
AMD FSR 3, when combined with super-resolution upscaling, can deliver massive framerates in supported games. This technology has been tested on a variety of GPUs, including both AMD Radeon RDNA 3 RX 7000 Series and RX 6000 Series, also Nvidia GPUs** from the previous century (1050ti).
The release of AMD FSR 3 marks a significant step forward in gaming technology. By making the source code available for DX12 and Unreal Engine 5, AMD is paving the way for easier integration of this technology into games, potentially unlocking new performance levels for developers and gamers alike.
Please note that this is a draft and may require further editing and fact-checking. Do note that the ancient 1050ti doesn’t support FSR3 frame gen, at least what AMD claims, according to which it might be a hit or miss, but it does work from the Turin 16 Series and up.
